About the TDS Calculator
"TDS on FD interest" is a search that spikes every time a fixed deposit matures and the credited amount is lower than expected — the bank has already deducted tax at source before paying you. This TDS calculator tells you exactly how much tax your bank will deduct on your interest income, based on the two things that actually determine it: whether you've submitted your PAN, and whether your total interest from that bank crosses the exemption threshold for the year.
Banks are required to deduct TDS once your interest income from all deposits with them crosses ₹40,000 in a financial year (₹50,000 if you're a senior citizen) — and crucially, once you cross that threshold, TDS applies to the entire interest amount, not just the portion above it. If you haven't submitted your PAN, banks deduct at a steeper 20% instead of the standard 10%. This is why linking your PAN to every bank account matters even if you don't expect to owe much tax — and why submitting Form 15G/15H (if your total income is below the taxable limit) can help you avoid TDS altogether, though this calculator focuses on the deduction itself rather than the exemption forms.
How to use this calculator

Frequently asked questions
›What is the TDS threshold on FD interest?
₹40,000 per financial year for individuals below 60, and ₹50,000 for senior citizens, per bank.
›What happens if I don't submit PAN?
Banks deduct TDS at a higher flat rate of 20% instead of the standard 10% if PAN isn't linked to your account.
›Can I avoid TDS on FD interest?
If your total income is below the taxable threshold, you can submit Form 15G (or 15H for senior citizens) to your bank to avoid TDS deduction.

No — TDS is an advance deduction. You still need to report the full interest income in your ITR and pay any additional tax due, or claim a refund if too much was deducted.
›How much is TDS on FD interest?
10% of your total annual interest if PAN is linked to your account, or 20% if it isn't — but only once your interest from that bank crosses ₹40,000 in the year (₹50,000 for senior citizens). Enter your numbers above for your exact deduction.
