About the Advance Tax Calculator

If you're a freelancer, business owner, or have significant income beyond your salary, "advance tax calculator" is a search you'll come back to four times a year — because advance tax isn't paid once at filing time, it's paid in instalments through the year, on specific due dates, with interest penalties under Sections 234B and 234C if you miss them.

The rule is simple: if your total tax liability after TDS exceeds ₹10,000 in a financial year, you're required to pay advance tax in four instalments — 15% of the total by June 15, a cumulative 45% by September 15, 75% by December 15, and the full 100% by March 15. This calculator estimates your total tax liability from your expected annual income, subtracts any TDS or advance tax already paid, and breaks the remaining balance into these four cumulative instalment amounts so you know exactly what's due and when. It's particularly useful for freelancers and consultants whose income isn't subject to employer TDS, and for anyone with significant capital gains, rental, or interest income during the year that pushes their tax liability above the threshold.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your estimated annual income.
  2. Enter any TDS or advance tax already paid.
  3. See your total liability and the cumulative amount due by each instalment date.
