GST Calculator: How Much GST on ₹10,000 at Every Rate

GST kitna lagta hai on ₹10,000? It depends entirely on the slab — at 18% (the most common rate for services), it’s ₹1,800, making your total ₹11,800. Here’s the exact GST amount at every standard Indian rate.
GST amount at every rate, on ₹10,000
| GST rate | GST amount | Total (incl. GST) |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | ₹500 | ₹10,500 |
| 12% | ₹1,200 | ₹11,200 |
| 18% | ₹1,800 | ₹11,800 |
| 28% | ₹2,800 | ₹12,800 |
Adding GST vs removing GST — they’re not the same math
If your ₹10,000 amount excludes tax, you add GST: 10,000 × 1.18 = ₹11,800 at 18%. But if a price you’ve been quoted already includes GST and you want to know the base price, you can’t just subtract 18% — that’s a common mistake. Dividing ₹11,800 by 1.18 gives you the correct base price of ₹10,000, not ₹11,800 minus 18% (which would wrongly give ₹9,676). GST-inclusive prices need to be divided by (1 + rate), not have the rate subtracted directly.
Which rate applies to what?
India’s GST has four standard slabs. 5% typically covers essential and daily-use items, 12% and 18% cover most standard goods and services (18% is the default for most services), and 28% covers luxury and sin goods. The exact rate for a specific product or service can change with government notifications, so always confirm the current applicable rate for your specific transaction rather than assuming based on the general category — our GST Calculator lets you toggle between all four rates and both add/remove modes instantly.
